We’ve covered the Doxie scanner and software in our previous guide “Go Paperless With Doxie” but it’s worth mentioning its built-in OCR features again. Prizmo is a scanning application with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) in 23 languages with powerful editing capability, text-to-speech, iCloud support, and translation into 59 languages. Prizmo can be used by everyone, thanks to its support of VoiceOver. Select the best calibration model among those you previously downloaded from Creaceed's servers. Readiris also allows you to save documents to online services Box, SharePoint and OneDrive. Multipage Processing Yes Another free option is to translate the text from English to many other languages. There are more than 40 languages supported (via Microsoft translation web service), from Arabic to Vietnamese. On a related note, there are also in-app purchases that will read your scanned text aloud, in one of 20 languages. In fact, there are more than 65 male or female voices to choose from, in total. Prices are $2.99 per pack, whether you go with "Heather - US English Female," "Will – US English Male," or "Louise - Canadian French Female." You get the idea. Note: I did not try this feature, but the comments on the App Store page suggest the VoiceOver option works well.

While Prizmo is easy to learn and offers a quick OCR solution, there are several features that limit its usefulness. The software only works on Apple products and does not directly integrate with Microsoft Office. While there is a workaround, the accuracy of the document decreases. If your company works exclusively with Macs, this is one of the best OCR software for Macs available.

Parallels, the company behind the popular virtualization software of the same name, has updated its iOS app Parallels Access, which allows iPad and iPhone owners to remotely access their Mac or Windows apps on their mobile device. The app allows users to interact with their desktop apps in the same way they would interact with their iPad apps, with the full range of iPad gestures available for compatible apps. Parallels Access translates what would usually be mouse clicks and movements into iPad-friendly alternatives. The 3.1 update means the app now officially supports the virtual keyboard and full screen resolution of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, so users can view an undistorted image of a 27-inch (non-Retina) iMac screen on the larger tablet using "Same as Computer" mode, which accompanies the existing "More space" and "Best for iPad" viewing modes. Other new features include support for 3D Touch on iPhone 6s and 6 Plus handsets, support for Apple Pencil and other stylus devices, folders on the App Launcher, support for cursor movement using the on-screen keyboard as a trackpad in iOS 9, and support for Windows 10 Tablet Mode. Parallels Access still doesn't support Split View on iPads however, since it would require changing the screen resolution of the remote computer. The app is $19.99 a year, or monthly for $2.99 to get unlimited use of Parallels Access for up to 5 computers.
